A short biography of John T. Benson

John T. Benson started the animal farm in 1922 as a quarantine for animals brought into the country before being sent to zoos, circuses, movies, and stage shows.

The citizens of Hudson, NH were so interested in the sounds coming from the farm that they gathered around the fences to see the animals. Because of the interest in seeing the animals, Mr. Benson opened his farm to the public for a small fee. He allowed all the citizens of Hudson, NH to come in for free.

As time passed, Mr. Benson started adding attractions each year to give people a reason to come back. The farm grew to become one of the largest entertainment parks in New England.
